Hurricane Ike #6

Exploration and Production

Chevron safely evacuated all employees and contractors from its oil and gas production facilities prior to Hurricane Ike's entrance into the Gulf of Mexico.

Chevron is currently assessing the affect of Hurricane Ike on its facilities. Reconnaissance flights indicate that some platforms have been affected, with several reported as toppled in the eastern and western shelf areas. Chevron will mobilize appropriate resources to address any environmental concerns and notify appropriate regulatory agencies as required. The company is mobilizing personnel to do more detailed facility assessments, weather permitting and to begin to safely restore production in the areas not directly affected. A key factor in getting all Chevron GOM fields back on production is also dependent on the integrity of the oil and gas pipeline systems and onshore terminals and plants.

Chevron does not issue shut in production information externally, however the MMS provides an overall status and that information can be found at http://www.mms.gov/2008Hurricane/2008HurricaneSeason.htm

Refining and Marketing

Chevron is working to maintain an adequate fuel supply to hurricane impacted communities despite significant challenges caused by the storms which have dramatically reduced production and affected the industry’s distribution network.

Product supply is very challenged in the affected areas.  A large sector of the region’s fuel manufacturing capacity has been temporarily shut down.  Major pipelines are operating, but at reduced rates.

Our only refinery in the area, located in Pascagoula, Mississippi, remains open and is operating at full capacity. Although it is a significant source of supply, production in Pascagoula does not meet all of Chevron’s needs in the region.

We have deployed power generators to the affected areas to restore electricity to strategically located stations.  Twenty tanker trucks have been sent to Houston from other areas of the country to expedite with fuel distribution in the impacted area.

Forty-five percent of our Chevron and Texaco branded stations are open and operating.  Many remain closed but we are working hard to reopen those sites as quickly as possible.

Chevron continues to exercise restraint in pricing our products at the wholesale level and encourages our retailers to do the same.  We are monitoring prices at our branded stations and investigating any abnormal occurrences.

We realize it has been a difficult time for the people, including many Chevron and Texaco employees, who live and work along the gulf coast. We assure them we are doing everything we can to quickly restore fuel supplies to their community.

Community Engagement

Chevron Corporation will make a commitment of $3 million to support recovery efforts in the communities affected by Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike.

The commitment will provide assistance to disaster relief efforts along the U.S. Gulf Coast, where Chevron has had a long presence, and in the Caribbean, where Chevron has marketing operations under the Texaco brand. The funds will be directed towards the Red Cross, Save the Children, Feeding America and the Pan American Development Foundation, together with local charities and relief efforts near Chevron businesses in affected states, as determined by the company.
