Joint Contractor Symposium with
Shell and BP
ChevronTexaco hosted a Joint Contractor Symposium with Shell and BP
in Houston, Texas on September 23rd. This symposium was in response
to feedback from our contracting community that the major operators
in the Gulf of Mexico should work more closely together on HES related
initiatives. Each operator spoke at the event about historical and
future efforts to achieve more consistent HES expectations of the
contractor workforce. Ensco, the 2002 MMS SAFE Award winner, was invited
to be the contractor speaker and JMJ spoke on building a safety minded
culture. There were four breakout sessions on topics including Walk
the Talk, Behavior Based Safety, Job Safety Analysis and Stop Work
Authority. Each breakout session resulted in a list of suggested steps
the operators could take to get more consistent with one another in
their HES expectations of the contractors. The operators will now
work with contractor teams to implement these suggestions over the
next year, before the next annual Joint Contractor Symposium.
Below are the presentations from the event.
Please note that we did not verify the information or the approaches
advocated in these presentations. Please also be reminded that while
performing services for ChevronTexaco Exploration and Production
Company it is the Contractor's responsibility to ensure that all
work is performed safely and in full compliance of all applicable
