SafeGulf Variance Process and Form

Objective

Establish a set of consistent, minimum health, safety and environmental (HSE) awareness level training /orientation requirements for contractors working in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

Sponsoring Operators in the GOM

  • BP
  • Chevron
  • ExxonMobil
  • Shell

Exceptions

The following should be utilized when personnel without SafeGulf training (not meeting the applicable criteria above) travel offshore;

  • Individual(s) are identified utilizing the host companies SSE identifier
  • Individual(s) must receive pre-approval from the site supervisor utilizing the variance form attached prior to travel.
    • Individual(s) will keep the Variance Form with them as they travel, this will be reviewed at the offshore embarkation point (typically a guard shack or dispatcher)
  • Individual(s) must identify themselves to the helicopter pilot or boat captain prior to embarkation

  • Permitting (Awareness)
  • Prevention of Workplace Violence*
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation (Awareness)*
  • Hand Safety (Awareness)*
  • Back Injury Prevention*

  1. Have employees trained through an approved training organization.
  2. Have your Contractor in-house training program "SafeGulf Accredited".
  3. Test out through an approved training organization.
