Swine Flue Update from GOMBU
To: All GOM Employees and Contractors
By now you should have received attached emails from Corporate HR about the Swine Influenza (Flu). I urge you to review this information to help protect you and your families from coming in contact with Swine Flu. The spread of Swine Flu is serious and we must take personal preventative measures at work and at home to curtail the spread of this virus.
Swine Flue Update - Chevron HR (37 KB)
The vast amount of public information on Swine Flu available can be confusing to employees. GOM obtains our medical advice from Chevron Health and Medical Services. Please be aware that although the World Health Organization has raised the Swine Flu alert level to Phase Four (indicating that the flu has caused small localized clusters of human cases with limited human-to-human transmission), the systematic spread of Swine Flu has not appeared in the Gulf of Mexico region. Should the Swine Flu alert level increase we are ready to respond as governed by the GOM Pandemic Influenza Mitigation Plan.
GOM’s Emergency Management team continues to monitor the situation.
Remember, in order to prevent infection, you are encouraged to do the following:
- Maintain good personal hygiene and cover coughs and sneezes with a mask or a tissue.
- Avoid obviously sick people. Stay at home if you are unwell, and contact your health care provider if you develop flu-like symptoms.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Use a disinfecting wipe to clean surfaces of common areas such as door handles, phones, keyboards or tools.
